| A funny thing happened on the way to the
web... The computer has become an important tool for
character and self esteem building in At-Risk Youth. On a computer, browsing the
web, "talking at/to" other browsers in chat rooms, through web pages and in
e-mail messages, life's stigmas, disabilities and imperfections become insignificant
and fail to effect others. Many Youth have found their "God-Father" revealed through a
"processor chip". In fact, personalities are not determined by looks nor by
idiosyncrasies on the web, rather by the thought of the mind relayed through a keyboard!
And, The Keyboard reflects the soul rather than the look,
accent or !!COLOR!! of a person. I have discovered
that youth blossom into mature, confident, motivated
young people after they have utilized the web for 2-3 months. They become WHO they think they are and
want to be, rather than what society may SEE them to be!
The main factor benefiting Youth and the Web is the parent, guardian or Big
Brother./Sister whom sets the youth's journey upon the Web, advising, demonstrating, and
then allowing for their Privacy while truly "keeping an eye" from the
